A comprehensive proposal for the revitalisation, reorganisation and expansion of the Castro Alves Theatre Complex, transforming it into a major cultural hub and an open, accessible urban destination. The project preserves the architectural integrity of the existing modernist theatre while introducing a new landscaped topography that accommodates the expanded facilities and connects the complex with the surrounding city.
The design establishes a seamless relationship between the existing building and new interventions through an elevated landscaped platform, suspended gardens, public terraces and interconnected circulation routes. The proposal incorporates exhibition galleries, performance spaces, rehearsal studios, workshops, a cultural research centre, a new acoustic shell and supporting facilities.
A strong emphasis is placed on cultural exchange, public accessibility and environmental integration, with sustainable strategies including green roofs, natural ventilation, rainwater harvesting and photovoltaic energy generation.
